IRD Cadence Aero
An amazing rim. Versatile beyond having an aero V shape, it is both strong and light. The recent trend for low spoke count wheels is a sound one, fewer spokes and a V shaped rim make for improved aerodynamics - the main opposing force in stopping you cycling faster. You can have this now in a hand built wheel with your hub of choice and spokes to suit your riding style.
IRD Cadence/VSR
When weight saving is more important than aerodynamics the cadence/vsr combo hits the sweetspot - perfectly. The rear has assymetric offset to make your back wheel stronger, essential now that dish is quite severe. This rim comes with as few holes as 24 to build the ultimate climbing wheelset.
Sapim Spokes
Brilliant spoke. Double butted, strong at the ends where it needs it, thinner in the middle where they never break. Excellent for most needs except where the aerodynamics is of paramount importance. Only 50p each.
Sapim CX-Ray
Strong, light and aero? The ultimate spoke but then at £2 a pop - it should be! Trickier to build with than 'normal' spokes for various reasons, once constructed into a wheel they perform flawlessly. I do like to use brass nipples for the rear wheels though.
Hubs
Royce Hubs
Beautifully made british hubs. Cliff at Royce is a real character, an Engineer all his life, he has looked at the concept of hubs from first principles and worked from there. If you want the central part of your wheel to last then choose these. Made with titanium axles for ultimate strength and reliability these hubs flex less than anything else on the market and the bearing quality cannot be surpassed. The freehub is titanium too, so, no annoying gouges in an alloy body making the sprockets hard to remove.
Amercian Classic Hubs
Ultimate in weight saving and low bearing friction, these hubs build into ultimate wheels for racing or sportive use. You wouldn't want to use these every day, trouble is, once you've used them once, you'll want to!
